After being dormant since 2012, the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame has announced their newest Class. They will be officially inducted on November 1, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The new class consists of: 1998 Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team: This was the first time that Women’s Hockey was featured in the Olympics and the U.S. defeated the favored Canadian team in the Gold Medal Game. Candace Cable (Paralympics): Cable would become the first person to medal in both the Summer and Winter Olympics. She has won 12 medals, eight of which were Gold. So begins my annual sojourn through all of the bands first eligible for the Rock Hall for the coming year. Usually, this is a list of 30, sometimes 40 at the outside. But 1994, the year that all of these bands had their first major release was a banner year for music. As a result there were nearly 90 bands that I considered before making this countdown. After digesting the results of the FIBA World Basketball Championships, we noticed that not very many people are talking about how this could relate to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The Canadian Music Hall of Fame has announced the newest members who will comprise the Class of 2019. The Canadian Music Hall of Fame was established in 1978. The Class will be officially inducted in an industry event on October 27 in Calgary, Alberta. The Class will also be featured at the 2020 Juno Awards. The new class consists of: Chilliwack: From Vancouver, Chilliwack was a successful Rock/Pop group had four top ten Canadian Hits with another three making the top twenty. Days after the passing of Eddie Money, the Rock and Roll world has lost another of its brethren as Rik Ocasek has passed away at the age of 75. He was found dead in his New York City apartment. No cause of death has been announced. Ocasek and his long-time friend and musical collaborator, Ben Orr, would found The Cars in 1976 and along with Greg Hawkes, Elliot Easton and Dave Robinson had a band that was about to mesh musical styles. We have another retirement to talk about as Shaun Livingston has announced that his NBA career is coming to an end at the age of 34. The 4th Overall Pick from the 2004 Draft, Livingston played his first three seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers before suffering a knee injury that would take him out of the 2007-08 season. He would go into full journeyman mode after that, playing for Miami, Oklahoma City, Washington, Charlotte, Milwaukee, Cleveland and Brooklyn before signing with the Golden State Warriors before the 2014-15 season. Blue Collar Rock and Roll took a tumble today as Eddie Money died at the age of 70 due to esophageal cancer. From New York City, Money (born Eddie Mahoney) followed his father’s footsteps as a New York City cop, though he pursued a musical career at night. He gave up law enforcement and moved to California where he was discovered and signed by promoter, Bill Graham.
