The music of Kansas at its most basic was a fusion of Progressive Rock and American Boogie Rock. It found itself a huge fan base but it is also found its share of detractors. Although Kansas had a distinctive sound in their early work that garnered them two Classic Rock staples (Dust in the Wind & Carry On My Wayward Son), they have been despised critically for years. The fact that their two hits are somewhat mocked in Will Ferrell films does little to enhance their reputation. A nomination to the Hall might just be the best they could hope for.
