gold star for USAHOF

Jim Hendy

Jim Hendy
More than anything, we get a kick out of an entry to the Hockey Hall of Fame being born in the West Indies. That selection, Jim Hendy also stands out in the Hall, as his Hockey related work did not happen on the ice, or behind a bench. It took place mostly with his pen and a calculator.

Hendy calculated the statistical methods that the sport of Hockey has followed since the 1930’s. In 1933, Hendy formed the Hockey Guide, which became the statistical bible for the National Hockey League (who eventually took it over). Hendy would also have a plethora of other jobs in the sport, including the publicist position for the New York Rangers and the General Manager for the AHL’s Cleveland Barons.
